Memorial Church of the Good Shepherd, 3820 The Oak Road
Join us for this special opportunity to attend a free, live performance of the “The Goldberg Variations,” one of the most sublime and soul-enhancing works of J.S. Bach. This keyboard composition consists of an aria and a set of 30 variations, each unique and technically challenging. “Composed for music lovers to refresh their spirits” in 1741, it was named after the harpsichordist who is said to have first performed it to soothe his employer’s sleepless nights.
Pianist Barbara Browne plays a wide range of solo styles, performs with singers and instrumentalists, teaches piano and coaches voice students at institutions including Cabrini University, Westminster Choir College and University of the Arts. She is a graduate of Oberlin College and studied piano with Eleanor Sokoloff, Susan Starr and Robert McDonald. She has performed for three other popular Village music events over the years.
