2009 Pageant

"Matt & Lucy's Version Births"
A Christmas Pageant
took place Sunday, December 27, 2009  (postponed from the 20th due to snow) in the Parish Hall during the 11:00 Worship Service.  After the pageant, the cast and congregation walked together into the Church for Holy Communion.
Here are some photos from the pageant:

This year’s pageant was titled: “Matt and Lucy’s Version Births,” by Dot Saunders-Perez.  It was written as a tool to use the pageant as a chance for young people to get an intimate and useful relationship with the gospels—even as they enact elements of the story of the birth of Jesus.  A director gives Matt and Lucy “scripts,” and then leaves them to practice.  They are confused as each calls for actors and elements not in the other’s script.  At the end the director returns, explaining that their scripts are based on different gospels, and the children tease out the main differences: that Matthew’s gospel emphasizes Christ’s lineage from King David and his being foretold by signs and worshipped by wise men from abroad.  Lucy’s script (from Luke’s gospel) emphasizes Jesus’ humble birth, his poverty, and his relationship to the lowly of the earth.  The children realize that together, the gospels tell us more than either one view alone.
